TURNING YOUR BOOK INTO AN AUDIOBOOK

If you’ve ever thought about turning your book into an audiobook, you’re in the right place! I love helping authors bring their stories to life in a way that grabs listeners from the first word. Here’s a peek at how it all works and what to expect when we work together.

THE PROCESS
It all starts with a chat. We’ll talk about your book, your vision for the narration and any character voices, accents, or special touches you might want. I like to work from a synopsis, covering the main characters, any specific character development and an overview of the story, then I dive into your manuscript, making sure everything is ready to read aloud.
Once that’s ready, we record. I work from my professional home studio, record remotely or on site (travel and accommodation expenses at an extra cost), focusing on pacing, emotion, and clarity. After recording comes the editing phase. This is where all the little “ums", curses, erroneous breaths and any mistakes disappear, and the audio is polished to perfection. Finally, after a last listen, I send you the finished files, ready to upload to Audible, iTunes, or wherever your listeners are. I can also include metadata, which gives your files that polished look by adding your artwork, embedding the book’s information and including any extra detail you may want, including contact details, websites or cheeky titbits for the curious to find.
PRICING AND HOW IT WORKS
You might notice that audiobook narrators charge by the finished hour (pfh), not by the time it takes to record. That’s because an hour of finished audio usually takes 3–5 hours (sometimes more) to record, edit, and proof-listen. It’s all part of making sure your audiobook sounds professional and enjoyable to listen to. If you just imagine; reading 1 hour of content takes at least 1 hour, usually a little longer. Editing while listening back can take 1.5-3 hours, depending on the complexity of the material, followed by a final proof listen, to ensure a high-quality product, which takes an hour.

WORKING WITH ME
Working together should be fun! I’ll guide you on tone, pacing and character delivery; drop in updates throughout the process, and make sure your story is engaging for listeners. My goal is to make this as smooth and enjoyable as possible. After all, we’re creating something that people will listen to for hours, so it should be fun to make too!

FAQ’S
-
What are your favourite genres?
My personal favourites are fantasy, horror, sci-fi, medical, psychology, romance and physics, however I love variety and enjoy most genres.
-
Will you swear/narrate adult fiction/intense true crime?
Yes, absolutely.
-
Can you quote how much it will cost?
Unfortunately not, as that is dictated by the pacing we go for and the content of your material, so can vary. However, estimations based on word count are above.
-
Do you enjoy your work?
Yes, I absolutely love it.
-
How quickly can you record?
We can discuss this in the initial discussion. Generally, I can work at a rate of approx. 16,000 to 20,000 words per day, fully edited, working Monday to Friday. For my schedule availability, we can also discuss this. If there is a rush on your project, I will try to accommodate as much as I can, and may incur extra charges if I need to put other projects on hold, however this can also be discussed.
-
Do I own the rights to the audio once it is finished?
Yes, however I only give permission to publish it in its full, unchanged format, unless otherwise discussed. Samples can be taken from the recorded material, but each sample needs to be agreed in writing. I absolutely do not give permission to use any of my audio for AI training or for the content to be edited in any way without my express consent.
-
Can you record extra promo material for me?
Absolutely. I’m more than happy to take on extra pieces for advertising and social media.
-
Do you share the book?
Most often, yes. I love to shout about the authors I work with, however I am also happy not to, if required, including working with NDA’s where necessary.
